Horrible experience as freelancer at rev
My Experience: I recently worked as an English-to-Korean caption translator on Rev for two weeks. While the platform offers some flexibility, there were significant drawbacks that made it a challenging experience for freelancers. Low Pay and Inconsistent Earnings: The advertised rate of $12 per minute is misleading. In reality, the actual pay is much lower, averaging around $4 per minute. Is it fraud or something? This significant discrepancy makes it difficult to earn a decent living, even with constant work. Project Availability and Quality Expectations: Projects are often scarce, leaving freelancers waiting for new opportunities throughout the day. This pressure can lead to accepting projects at a lower pay rate than initially expected, just to maintain some level of income. However, Rev maintains incredibly high quality standards. When you've done 95% right and 5% mistake, they say it's bad quality even hard work you've done. There's no opportunity to revise mistakes, and feedback is only provided after submission, potentially leading to unexpected deactivation like mine. I would definitely accept the fact that they request high quality no matter what if they pay me 12 dollars per minute as they advertised. After shut-down of account without warning, they just notify "the decision is final, no reply accepted" , isn't it BS company? Account Deactivation: The deactivation process was particularly frustrating. I received two grading notifications regarding my work, but there was no chance to improve. Then, without warning, my account was deactivated. This sudden termination feels unprofessional and unfair. Overall: I assume it's kind of exploitation of labor while I believe they hire and dump freelancer as easy as possible with low pay for their sake unlike the blueprint advertise. While Rev offers some flexibility, the low pay, unrealistic quality expectations, lack of revision opportunities, and potential for sudden deactivation make it a difficult platform for freelancers to build a sustainable income. The advertised rates are misleading, and the actual earnings are barely enough to be considered more than pocket money. There are better options available for those seeking fair compensation and a chance to build a successful freelance career.

REv.com is clearly designed and structured, transparent, no-fuss provider for (in our case) subtitling of videos. The turnaround time was amazingly short. I can only recommend Rev.com

Het aanmelden ging vrij soepel, aangezien ik mijn PayPal-account kon verbinden zonder al te veel persoonlijke gegevens te moeten geven. Maar ja, het wachten op goedkeuring om als freelancer te starten, was echt teleurstellend. Ik hoorde dat het maar liefst 12 weken kon duren! En dan nog afwachten of ik überhaupt freelancer zou kunnen worden, hing af van hoe ik zou presteren in een test die ik moest afleggen.

The problem is when there is a problem…
The problem is when there is a problem at REV......the staff blames you. They advised me to use one account and I did. I paid them. Transcript never came. I called and they had sent it to an old email address of mine. Of course, they blamed me. THEN the person from REV, Alexandrea, told me that I had indicated the transcript was complete. That was not true. I never indicated that. THEN I could not get the transcript to print. Yes, I was frustrated and ran my mouth as there were too many problems. THEN Alexdrandra told me it was their job to get me the transcript, and it was up to me to be able to print it. WOW. Thanks Alexandrea. I got off the phone, played around with a few more buttons on REV website, and was able to print the transcript. I guess Alexandrea either did not know how to print the transcript or just did not care.

Na vele jaren met hen samengewerkt te hebben en niet echt tevreden geweest te zijn, besloot ik om het nog eens te proberen. En tot mijn grote verbazing hebben ze als bedrijf enorme vooruitgang geboekt. De resultaten waren geweldig en de service was top. Ze hebben me echt verrast en ik kon niet blijer zijn met de hele ervaring. Op naar de volgende uitdaging!

It was fine. I don't like the fact that I can't upload files before I am ready to place an order. That's a pain. I want to be able to upload as I go. It doesn't really help me to only be able to sort uploads into folders after the job is done. That's not helpful to me - just means I got to spend time cleaning and refiling. It's not being able to upload them in advance that slows things down and makes it cumbersome.
Interview transcription service
Wat een geweldige ervaring was het om dat interview te laten transcriberen! De persoon die het heeft gedaan, heeft niet alleen de sprekers kunnen identificeren, maar ook hun namen correct kunnen spellen - en dat terwijl het Oekraïense namen waren die in het Engels werden geschreven. Ze kwamen perfect overeen met het persbericht dat ik had ontvangen. Bovendien konden ze een onderscheid maken tussen de sprekers, iets wat me zelfs niet lukte tijdens het telefoongesprek. Ik ben echt blij dat Rev het opnemen en transcriberen zo makkelijk maakt. De tijd die het me bespaart wanneer ik een deadline heb, is elke cent waard! En de doorlooptijd is meestal verbazingwekkend snel.
Rev.com Unethical Refund Policy
I'm a college student who utilized this service for a school assignment at the end of 2022. I used their captioning tool once but forgot to cancel my subscription. When I finally realized this in January of 2024, I contacted Customer Service to explain my situation. As I had not used their service since 2022, I was hoping for a notable refund. Unfortunately, management only refunded the most recent month and refused to do any more than that. I struggle to understand the ethicality of this decision, as they are happy to accept $500 for an unused service. I am extremely disappointed in the company's values.
Horrible transcription service
This human transcription service is absolutely horrible. It's not worth money at all. I had to pay and over $500 for the additional human transcription and they couldn't even fix the speaker error that AI created. I was recommended this company by a colleague but I will never recommend this company to anyone. When I talked to customer service they were no help either.

Good service at a good price
Easy to use once you get your head around the interface. Fast and good value compared to other providers.
Horrible for fiction and "publishable" files
I am a fiction writer. I compared three Voice Memo recorded files employing AI only against three similar length paid files using human transcription. AI was moderately OK: it still had problems with quote attribution, grammar, and names misspelling which I thought I had averted by recording my files with grammar commands plus spelling. As is typical with AI, it takes a lot of time to clean up the errors the machine makes. Then I paid for 3 theoretically "human transcribed" files of similar length to the test files above, also using spoken grammar and spelling commands. My files were all delivered so fast that no human being could have even opened them, so my impression is that I got the AI product without human level accuracy. In some respects, the human transcribed files had more mistakes, though why is a mystery. Not worth the money in my view for the accuracy I want. Very disappointed since Rev has stellar reviews. Maybe no one gives a damn if you're only transcribing meeting content but anyone who wants to publish from these files where spelling, grammar and clarity are valued, it isn't worth the cost. I'd rather pay a human I know who knows the rules of composition. Bummed because it sounds like such a great solution.
